Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
